Civics in the curriculum

In light of the upcoming curriculum changes signalled from 2027, we’re undertaking early conversations with schools to better understand what support teachers may find helpful when teaching civics-related content.

We’re particularly interested in whether there are gaps in practical guidance for explaining New Zealand’s democratic institutions and decision-making processes, especially for teachers for whom this isn’t a specialist area. Our intention is to complement Ministry of Education materials, not to replace them. Any work in this space would focus on institutional understanding rather than values or advocacy.

If you’re a teacher, Head of Department, or school leader interested in sharing your perspective, we’d love to chat. Just drop us a line here.
