About us

Bridging the gap

Based in Wellington, we are specialists in the machinery of government.

While we believe that understanding the public sector is fundamental, formal civics education is often limited. For many, the complexities of policy and legislation only become a priority when they enter the workforce or need to engage with the system.

Our mission is to provide that missing link, helping individuals across all sectors navigate government with confidence. We bring 15 years of experience to this space, and we’re just getting warmed up.

Dr Ryan Malone, Director

Ryan completed an LLB at the University of Otago. He also holds a BA (Politics), a Master of Laws, and a PhD (Law) from Victoria University of Wellington. His doctorate considered the effects of MMP on the constitution and was published by the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS).

Ryan has worked as a policy advisor at the Law Commission on the major overhaul of New Zealand’s alcohol laws. He subsequently worked in the Cabinet Office at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC), where he was responsible for coordinating the National-led Government’s legislation programme during the 49th Parliament.
